Palm Leaf Etching,

India

PNINPUDPPA0000008

Depicting scenes from Indian mythology, this traditional etching on palm leaf is from the state of Odisha. It was created by first using a stylus to etch the outlines of the figures, then rubbing a paste of bean leaves, burnt coconut shell-ash, sesame oil, and turmeric to emphasize the figure, and finally by pouring ink to make the lines stand out. Owing to its neutral color scheme, it will fit into practically any decor or scheme.
