This slender bottle-vase features a macram??d handle and a cylindrical body made of black Longpi serpentinite rock. It is an original CuroCarte design suitable for use in traditional as well as modern decors. This vase is an example of how an ancient craft technique, which pre-dates metal ware, has been made contemporary by combing two beautiful elements of nature.

It is believed that Goddess Panthobi (also known as Annapurna and Parvati) fed the whole world along with her consort Shiva, who was begging for food on account of a whim created by her. To overcome this situation goddess Annapurna created a bowl which would provide endless food and it is believed that the bowl was made up of serpentine stone which is the base material for Longpi Pottery.

    At First, the weathered rock(clay) and serpentine rock, which according to locals, are available at Longpi only, are crushed to a powder and mixed with water in a ratio of 5:3 to form a clay-like consistency. The dull-brown mixture is kneaded the entire day and flattened on a wooden board for the initial slab work. Uniquely, Longpi pots are not crafted on a potter’s wheel.
