The Art form developed from the art and craft movement in Britain in 20th Century. Most of the pottery done by the artists during this time was influenced by Chinese, Korean, Japanese and medieval English forms.Studio pottery on the other hand was brought to India by Rabindranath Tagore. In India it further branched out into two styles which developed in Delhi under Gurcharan Singh and Pondicherry under Ray Meeker's Golden Bridge pottery.
