Deer Motif Patchwork

Patch Work,

A little over seven feet in height and four kilos in weight, this is an elegant wall hanging of a deer's likeness. It features an artistically composed Patchwork of embroidered cloth in multicolour that enliven the neutral grey backdrop. Patchwork originated in Rajasthan as a utilitarian way of increasing the life of old clothes. In Patchwork, the joints are overlaid by strips of coarse yarn. These strips perform two important functions:one is that they conceal the underlying stitches. The other function is highlighting the individual shapes of cloth and creating the visual effect that is really the heart of Patchwork.
