Coloured Lotus Patchwork

Patch Work,

The Lotus has a rich tradition in Indian subcontinent, being associated with the gods Vishnu, Brahma, and Kubera. At seven feet by eight-and-a-half feet, this striking pink wall hanging shows a splendid Lotus that has been created by combining many pieces of embroidered cloth, mostly in pink shades, against a green background. Coarse green yarn has been used to cover the lines of overlap between the pieces, providing a highlighting technique as well as a way to hide the stitches. These are the typical attributes of the patchwork technique, of which this wall hanging is a prime example.
